attract mode recovery

ATTRACT MODE (1996) was a first person game built on a commercially licensed artificial intelligence, developed by deadlink softworks ltd of reading, england, and cancelled weeks before release for reasons nobody wrote down. this site hosts what survives, and documents the work of reconstructing it.

we are four people. we do not use names. we call ourselves the 4019 group, after the number. everything we host is either recovered material or clearly marked transcription. nothing has been cleaned up. colophon.

reading

ATTRACT MODE (unreleased video game) - the article
the dispute - read before citing
sought material - what we are still looking for
public directory - recovered files, sizes, checksums
deadlinksoftworks.com - the 1996 site, mirrored
the 1998 fan shrine - rehosted by its author, unmodified since 1999. linked with his permission

the reconstruction

the reconstruction boots. we let it run continuously, because the specification says it cannot be paused and we take the specification seriously. this is either preservation or the opposite, depending which recovered document you believe.

public mirror: link withheld until the build stops changing.
