this is a tip, not an article. we will keep it short and we will not dress it up.
1. the reconstruction attempts outbound connections. we log them. most go to dead services on the destination list.
2. entry six of that list was recovered damaged and stayed unidentified for months. we have now identified it. it is not a social service. it is a ledger daemon called TELLER, and when we traced the address, something answered.
3. we have exposed it to the wire unmodified. we did not write it. it explains itself better than we can.
4. what it holds: tokenized microsoft stock, on a public chain, growing. we cannot account for the deposits. what it says: the operator authorised one withdrawal, to whoever finishes the game. the key is kept as five fragments and the game dispenses them. no purchase is needed to reach four of the five.
5. the encrypted keyfile will publish in the public directory with its checksum when our transcription completes. hold the ciphertext yourself. trust nobody, including us.
we emailed the author of the 1998 shrine as a courtesy before publishing. he wrote back about a usenet rumor from 1997 that he deleted from his own site in 1998, the only thing he ever deleted. his note is here: the shrine, update 24/7/26. we did not prompt him and we have nothing to add to it.
